Sightseeing charters are a great experience for everyone. Being on the water almost everyday, sometimes you can forget just how fortunate we are to have an incredible amount of wildlife. Dolphins seem to get the highlight and we have the largest number of bottle nose dolphin in the world. We always get the opportunity to see dolphins up close. Sometimes we can get them to jump and play in the wake of the boat, a truly beautiful and graceful mammal. These dolphin are typically in small social groups of up to 10 or more. They eat approximately 20 pounds of fish a day, which tells us we have a tremendous amount of life in the surrounding waters.
Manatees are plentiful in our local waters as well. I spring, summer and fall, manatees are spread out in our area and you can see them in many different places. In the winter, manatees seek warmer water in protected canals and many can be seen at the power plants where there is a warm water discharge. Like many species in our area, they can not live in cold water.
We also have an amazing amount of birds: pelicans, heron, spoonbills and more. Sanibel’s Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge is a great place to view these beautiful birds. Sea reed charters has a special permit which allowes him to enter the preserve by boat. We also have many osprey and eagles. It is amazing to watch them dive down and try and pick a fish from the water. Come and enjoy the wildlife in the Sanibel, Captiva, Fort Myers area.
Sanibel and Captiva, along with the the other barrier islands in our area, are known for the amazing amount of shells.
